The publisher Valer informs that it will give up to 70% discount on books at the 38th Book Fair and the Cuca Sesc Festival, which starts on the 5th and ends on the 8th of October 2023. The event, which will honor the poet and journalist Jorge Tufic, has free entry and will take place at the Vasco Vasques Convention Center, located at Avenida Constantino Nery, 5001, Chapada, from 8 am to 9 pm.

For the professor with a PhD in Philosophy and editorial coordinator at Valer, Neiza Teixeira, the discounts are already expected by our readers, as it is known that books are expensive in Brazil.

“Valer wants its books to be read, for us to always have more readers and for knowledge to reach as many people as possible. It was with this in mind that, this year, the publisher will arrive with a considerable range of books on sale. This is also a resource used to make the public reach the fair and make it a great event”,

highlighted Neiza.

In the Fair’s programming, Café Literário will feature renowned writers, many of them published by Valer. Among them, Elson Farias, Leyla Leong, Wilson Nogueira, Marcos Frederico Krüger, Zemaria Pinto, José Almerindo, Abrahim Baze, indigenous writers Jayme Diákara and Ytanajé Cardoso, Spanish poet Saturnino Valladares and professor Thiago Roney, as well as Neiza Teixeira, author of the book “Towards or beyond us”.

According to Marília Maciel, commercial manager at Valer, there will be something new this year at the publisher’s stand.

“At our stand there will be an autograph session, when our readers will have the opportunity to be in contact with Amazonian writers. This year, SESC has as its national guest the writer Raphael Montes, winner of the Jabuti award and screenwriter of the Netflix series “Bom dia, Verônica”; “The girl who killed her parents” and “The boy who killed my parents. Among his works, we can highlight “Perfect Days”, a phenomenon translated into 22 countries”. His works will be available at our stand”.

During the four days, the Fair will have spaces, for example, the Literary Café, with the presence of writers and a Story Telling space, with presentations about Amazonian legends, carried out by Social Work with Elderly People at Sesc (TSI) and the Theater School Interart.

About the honoree

The year’s honoree will be Jorge Tufic, writer and member of the Academia Amazonense de Letras (AAL), where he occupied chair number 18, held by patron Jonas da Silva. Born in Sena Madureira, Acre, Tufic lived in Manaus, where he dedicated himself to studies and worked as a journalist.

Due to his long career in Amazonas, in 1954 he became one of the founders of Clube da Madrugada. Composer, he wrote the lyrics to the Amazonas anthem. He died in 2018, aged 87, in São Paulo, a victim of lung cancer.

The books published by Valer are: “Balcony of birds” (1956), rescue collection (4th edition, 2005); “When the nights flew” (1999), (2nd edition 2011); “A guest named Hansen” (2009).
