Economists award Dilma Rousseff with the title of “Woman Economist” of the year

Former president Dilma Rousseff (PT) was awarded the title of “Woman Economist 2023”, an honor given by the Federal and Regional Economic Councils (Sistema Cofecon/Corecons) to professionals in the field who stand out in their roles. The decision was taken last Saturday (9) during a plenary session of the entities.

The entity states that Dilma’s choice as “Woman Economist 2023” was due to “recognition of her legacy and expertise in the economic field, as well as her fundamental role in the formulation and implementation of policies that shaped Brazil’s economic trajectory”. The former president was prevented from continuing in office in 2016 for the crime of being responsible for the practice of so-called “fiscal pedaling” and for issuing decrees opening credit without the authorization of Congress.

“Dilma Rousseff, current president of the Brics Bank, former president of Brazil and renowned economist, was chosen for her significant contribution to the country’s economic and social development throughout her career”, explains the entity in a statement.

According to Cofecon/Corecons, Dilma’s choice to receive the honor took place in four phases, with the nomination by the fiscal councilors, preparation of a tenfold list, voting to reduce it to a triple list and a secret vote in plenary.

The entity also states that the award to Dilma highlights the “importance of recognizing and valuing women who play relevant roles in promoting development with social responsibility”.

In addition to Dilma, economists Tania Bacelar, Esther Dweck (current minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services) and Denise Lobato Gentil have also received the award.

This year, Dilma took on the role of president of the Brics Bank on the recommendation of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who arranged the early departure of Marcos Troyjo, appointed by Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and who ended up resigning at the beginning of the year. . His term would only end in 2025.
