Manaus (AM) – The capital of Amazonas will host the “Virada Sustentável Manaus 2023”, this Saturday (4) and Sunday (5), from 8am to 6pm, which will bring an extensive cultural program with more than 70 free activities in different parts of the city. Among the confirmed actions, the highlight is the international exhibitions that promise to delight the public and promote reflections on topics related to the Amazon, climate change and sustainability.

The complete program can be seen at the link:

Considered the largest sustainability event in Latin America, Virada Sustentável Manaus has been co-organized for nine years by Fundação Amazônia Sustentável (FAS) and Virada Sustentável Nacional and supported by the Creative Council, which has more than 60 Amazonian civil society organizations, in addition to 300 volunteers.

One of the exhibitions that promises to catch the public’s attention is Eggcident, by Dutch artist Henk Hofstra. The artistic installation raises awareness about the current situation of worsening global warming. The artist brings giant eggs alluding to the food when it is “being fried”, on the sidewalks of Largo São Sebastião, in the center of Manaus.

The ODS Exhibition, by BA1 Produções Artísticas, will feature artists painting panels inspired by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN), also at Largo São Sebastião.

At the Soul do Monte Institute, located in the Monte das Oliveiras neighborhood, there will be the exhibition “Manaus survivor, portraits of a strong drought”, with copyright photographs about the severe drought that hits the state of Amazonas and affects more than 618 thousand people, who face problems with transportation, water and food supply and difficulty accessing health and education services.

On the 5th, at Largo São Sebastião, artist Carla Shauana presents the photographic exhibition “The Amazon is today!”. On the same day, at the Vilma Palheta Community Library, located in the Coroado neighborhood, East Zone, there will be an exhibition about books and authors from the neighborhood, promoting local talents.

“This year, we are bringing large artistic installations to Manaus that aim to spread sustainability in an impactful way that draws attention to the conservation of the Amazon and the planet. Our expectation is to increasingly raise awareness about the importance of sustainability among society and reinforce that we will not have tomorrow if something is not done now”,

says the coordinator of Virada Sustentável Manaus and responsible for the FAS Sustainable Cities Agenda, Cristine Rescarolli.
