Diesel will have federal taxes zeroed again until the end of the year

The federal taxes that were levied on the price of diesel were reset to zero until the end of the year after the expiration of the provisional measure that determined the partial increase to pay for the program that made popular cars, buses and trucks cheaper in the month of June.

The reduction was confirmed by the National Federation of Fuel and Lubricant Commerce (Fecombustíveis), after the provisional measure lost its validity last Tuesday (3). According to the entity, the reduction in pumps should be R$0.11 per liter.

“We hope that fuel distributors will immediately pass on the exemption from federal taxes, which will have an impact on reducing the price of diesel oil,” the entity said in a statement.

The Federal Revenue also confirmed, in a note, that the reduction is valid until December 31st and that, “if there are no legal changes by then, from January 1st, 2024 the rates on diesel and biodiesel will return to their values normal: R$ 0.35/liter for diesel and R$ 0.14/liter for biodiesel”.

The provisional measure that created the program to make motor vehicles cheaper increased PIS and Cofins taxes by R$0.11 to cover the R$1.5 billion discount offered to car manufacturers. Still at the end of June, a new measure increased the tax by R$0.03, to a total of R$0.14 per liter, to cover another R$300 million in extra discounts on popular cars, whose demand had been exceeded. in the first few weeks of the discount program.

Last weekend, the government made another increase in federal taxes on diesel, with an impact of approximately R$0.02 per liter at the pumps.
