A bill sent to the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo wants to prohibit the allocation of public funds from the São Paulo government to entities that promote rodeos or similar events.

The proposal elaborated by state deputy Rafael Saraiva (União Brasil) foresees that these events also do not benefit from tax incentives or from the provision of public space for the realization.

In the justification forwarded to the São Paulo Legislative, Saraiva cites the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights, from 1978, and says that several judicial processes throughout the country have already understood that the Public Power should not finance or contribute to the realization of these events.

“We understand that the state has more important attributions than the realization of cultural events that are commonly sponsored by private entities, and that, in addition, have large profit margins with their realization and promotion”, he wrote.

Last week, the parliamentarian also sent to the São Paulo Legislative Assembly a proposal to make the expression “caramel mongrel” as “of relevant cultural interest” in the state of São Paulo. The text argues that the classification will allow the government to create specific protection for these dogs.

The proposals were published in the Saturday (1st) edition of the state’s “Official Gazette”. On his social networks, deputy Rafael Saraiva presents himself as an advocate for the protection of animals.
