A former employee of the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been charged with embezzlement for trying to sell a hat that BTS’s Jungkook had left behind in the building in Seoul when he went to renew his passport. Broadcaster OBS reported on Tuesday that the asking price for the item was 10 million won (about R$40,000).
According to the 6th Criminal Division of the Public Ministry of the Central District of the South Korean capital, the former civil servant registered, in October 2022, images of the star’s hat on a used product sale website, identifying it as belonging to Jungkook . He explained that he took possession of the hat after six months had passed and no one had gone to the lost and found to retrieve it. Finally, the prosecutors asked the former server to pay a fine.
The online disclosure quickly generated controversy, and the author ended up removing the ad. According to OBS, the former employee turned himself in to the police and confessed to the accusations. The crime of embezzlement concerns a public official who appropriates a good because of his job in order to achieve something for his own benefit.
According to Yonhap News, Hybe acknowledged to the police that the hat in question belonged to Jungkook. Now the prosecution must return it to its owner.
