Delivery app has a program to exchange recyclables for discounts

Since July, anyone who uses any of Ambipar Triciclo’s Return Machines, spread across eight locations in Curitiba, will be able to exchange their points for R$5 discount vouchers to use in iFood orders, subject to the Program’s rules. There are 303 collection points throughout Brazil, with a total capacity to collect 1.2 million recycled packages per month.

The machines are located in the Atuba, Batel, Centro, Mercês, Mossunguê and Parolin districts. The map of Return Machines can be consulted on the Ambipar Triciclo website. The machines are prepared to receive used aluminum, steel, plastic, long-life and glass packaging, which are collected and taken to the correct destination. As a reward, the citizen accumulates points, the tricoins, which give the right to iFood discounts.

To participate, the first step is to create an account on the Ambipar Triciclo app or website, which will count the points. Afterwards, the user takes their recyclable packaging to one of the Return Machines. Using the barcode, the machine reads the deposited material and generates 5 to 15 tricoins. From 2,500 tricoins, it is possible to redeem vouchers for a R$5 discount on orders made through the iFood app. The discount is not cumulative on the same order.

This partnership is part of a series of actions that iFood promotes to benefit the environment. “By 2025 we have a public commitment to reduce by 50%, by weight, the amount of plastic in our business, and the remainder will be recycled”, explains André Borges, Sustainability director at iFood.

“In addition, we develop and encourage the use of sustainable packaging and strengthen our ecosystem with environmental education projects, correct disposal and support for cooperatives that contribute to collection and recycling”, he adds.

Ambipar Triciclo has been operating in the market since 2016 with the mission of creating and operating solutions for sustainable development through the monetization of the reverse logistics system, customer loyalty and marketing system. The company is the operator of the Return Machine, Recicla Pharma and Leaveki projects, all linked to the Triciclo Loyalty Program.

In this program, the packages collected are worth tricoins, which can be exchanged for benefits, such as electricity bonus, transport voucher recharge, bookstore discount, telephone credit and digital account credit, among other advantages. In six years of operation, it has already collected more than 25 million post-consumer packages.
