Delay in scheduling at the Women’s Hospital generates complaints – 03/10/2023 – Health

Patients who attend the Hospital da Mulher, in Campos Elíseos, downtown São Paulo, complain about the confusion of information, the lack of options for food, changes in care and especially the delay in scheduling appointments and exams.

The hospital opened its doors on September 14 last year with the mission to receive patients from the former Pérola Byington, a reference in the care of the female public.

In October, the Sheet showed that supplies were lacking and that surgeries were being canceled, and the superintendent of Seconci-SP (Social Service of Civil Construction of São Paulo), responsible for managing the white coat of the hospital —the part that involves health professionals—said that the problems would be resolved.

In recent days, however, the unit has again been the target of criticism.

“The professionals are attentive, polite, but the last time it took me more than three hours to schedule my mother’s return”, said project assistant Rita de Cássia Firmino Souza, 32, who accompanied housewife Francisca Firmino Santos, 62.

“There are few attendants and they call five people from the general public to one from the preferential”, he added, while waiting for the transport by app in front of the hospital, this Thursday morning (9).

The complaint extends to the scheduling service through WhatsApp.

For Vanda Albieri, 62, the return via the application took a week and, for Marisa Cordeiro de Paula, 53, 15 days.

Alongside her husband, Lúcio Antônio de Paula, 56, Marisa said that service at the new unit is still very confusing, with different guidelines depending on the attendant and rescheduling.

“Last week, I had chemotherapy on Thursday. I left Caraguatatuba [litoral norte paulista] with the city hall van at 1:00 am and, at 6:00 pm, they told me that I would not be seen, that I was supposed to come the next day, on Friday. On Friday, I did the chemo and today [quinta, 9] I’m here for consultation. Why not spend the same day?”, asked the housewife, in treatment for breast cancer.

She reported that each consultation is attended by a different doctor, which creates insecurity in relation to the follow-up of her case and makes it difficult to form a bond, and she misses a nurse for each chemotherapy cabin, as it used to happen at Pérola Byington. “It’s two or three for all [as cabines]I think there’s a shortage of employees,” he said. “I don’t know what medication I’m taking.”

Another problem, indicated Lúcio, is the lack of food options on site. “The food court is very expensive, only doctors can afford it,” he complained.

“The old hospital had cafeterias around it and those who went for chemotherapy had the option of having lunch, receiving juice and tea”, recalled Marisa.

The issue was also pointed out by Nolvina da Silva Neta Fontana, 54. “These are prices like airport prices. Not everyone can afford it.”

In a note sent to the report by the Secretary of Health of São Paulo, the hospital said it regretted that the patients did not have a good experience and that “it is studying measures to improve the scheduling tools for consultations and exams in order to expand and optimize the services” .

The institution also said that it does not carry out information on turnover in the nursing team. “The unit has about 1,200 professionals in its staff and prioritizes that all patients are accompanied by the same professionals throughout the treatment”, declared the hospital.

The hospital also stated that it complies with the delivery of food to patients who undergo chemotherapy and remain for more than six hours in the unit and that the values ​​of food sold in the unit are determined in the contract.

According to the note, all hospital services are already in operation, but the institution should operate at 100% of its capacity until the last quarter of this year.
