Indebted Brazilians have at least two opportunities to renegotiate their debts this Friday (31). Banks and finance companies close the renegotiation effort, carried out since March 1st in partnership between Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks), Central Bank, Senacon (National Consumer Secretariat) and Procons

The emergency edition of the Feirão Serasa Limpa Nome also comes to an end, with discounts of up to 99% on debts. More than 500 partner companies participate in this task force.

In both cases, defaulters will be able to negotiate debts online. At the bank fair, there is also the option of closing a deal at an agency, if the citizen prefers face-to-face service or through the Consumidor.gov.br portal, with a Gov.br platform password of silver or gold level.

At Serasa, negotiations run until 11:59 pm, on the website serasalimpanome.com.br, on the Serasa app, via WhatsApp, at the number (11) 99575–2096, or through a toll-free call to the number 0800-591-1222.

Data from Serasa show that defaults increased again in February, reaching 70.5 million Brazilians. The number represents 433,000 new debtors in one month, compared to January. The sale has already negotiated more than 4 million in debt.

Credit cards are the main villain, responsible for 31.6% of debts, followed by bank accounts, with 21.7%, and by the retail sector, with 11.2%. Compared to February 2022, accounts with banks and cards increased by 3%, while the other two segments declined.

Each indebted Brazilian owes, on average, R$ 4,631.78, but the average debt can reach R$ 7,071.26, as in the case of the Federal District. In São Paulo, the average debt amount is R$ 5,343.33.

Luiz Rabi, chief economist at Serasa Experian, points to inflation and high interest rates as responsible for the indebtedness. “Inflation and high interest rates are the main factors that explain the current scenario, in addition to the unfavorable seasonality of February, which is accompanied by typical expenses at the beginning of the year, such as IPVA, IPTU, readjustment of monthly fees and others”, he says.

How to renegotiate debts in banks and finance?

Renegotiation is possible for credit card debts, payroll loans, overdraft, personal loans and other types, except those with assets as collateral (vehicles, motorcycles, real estate and others).

The mutirão is not suitable for those who have their installments up to date and intend to refinance the amount still to be paid. To participate, you must be in default. The campaign is also not indicated by the organizers for those who are heavily indebted, that is, the client who cannot pay off the debt and maintain the family’s subsistence.

In this case, the recommendation is that the person look for the nearest Procon.

According to Febraban, a new task force should be carried out in November. Data from the federation show that 2.3 million contracts were renegotiated in November last year. The entity stated that it will release a balance sheet after the end of this month’s action.

How to renegotiate debts at the Serasa sale?

In addition to the official channels for closing a debt renegotiation agreement, the consumer can be served at more than 11,000 Post Office branches across the country, which offer the same negotiation conditions, but you have to pay a fee of R$ 3.95.

To find out how each trading channel works, the company provides information on YouTube. On the fair’s website, customers can first consult their CPF to find out about their debts, and then click on the name and logo of the company they want to do business with. It is possible to close deals in up to three minutes.

Know how to close the deal

Before closing the agreement on the mutirão, it is necessary to know the amount of the debt and evaluate the conditions being proposed by the bank or finance company. The Central Bank’s Registrato platform shows existing loans and financing. The consultation is free, requiring a gov.br account. See below for other tips:

1. DO THE ACCOUNTS TO UNDERSTAND YOUR DEBT

  • Make a list of all overdue bills and installments, with their respective amounts
  • Put at the top of the list those that you need to pay off first, because they are essential to give you back your purchasing power or because they have very high interest rates, such as credit card or overdraft
  • Then, you need to know how much you will have available each month to pay the negotiated amounts, considering the other expenses you already have

2. NEGOTIATE WITH CREDITORS

  • Understand how the negotiation is going: What is the percentage of discount on the total debt? If I pay in cash, is there a bigger discount? If you pay in installments, how much is the interest?
  • Define a goal, the amount you can afford and make counterpoints
  • If you still have doubts, print the negotiation proposal, talk to the family and, only after reaching a conclusion, close the agreement

3. ORGANIZE YOURSELF NOT TO CONTINUE OWNING

  • When closing the deal, know that you have to stick to it until the end, so negotiate only amounts you can pay with the income you already have
  • To ensure that you no longer have negative debts in your name, bet on financial planning, balance your monthly earnings and expenses
  • Make a spreadsheet and involve the whole family in this control and in the effort to save
