Current interest rate will bring problems in the future, says Haddad – 06/22/2023 – Market

The context gives a clear sign that we could signal a cut in the Selic rate, the highest in the world”, said this Thursday (22) the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, regarding the decision of the Copom (Monetary Policy Committee) to maintain the basic interest rate at 13.75%.

According to the minister, the decision faces problems for the future, with inflation and also with taxation.

“This mismatch has worried us for a long time,” said Haddad, who defended the relativization of the polls.

“I am in favor of looking at the polls, I understand that, but they are subsidies for decision-making and cannot replace the monetary authority,” he said, adding that the polls have been wrong in the last six months.

The minister also showed optimism in the relationship with Congress for the approval of the fiscal framework and the processing of the tax reform.
