How about livening up this rainy holiday with a special coffee accompanied by a treat? The Curitiba Coffee Week gastronomic festival begins this Thursday (12th), which until October 22nd offers special combos, with coffee and food, at a fixed price of R$ 25. In total, 60 establishments in the city participate of the event, including coffee shops, roasting shops, pastry shops and bakeries.
Organized a decade ago by expert Julio Shiira, Coffee Week is held annually in several Brazilian cities with the support of the Brazilian Specialty Coffee Association (BSCA) and, here in the state, the Paraná Rural Development Institute (IDR-PR). The aim of the event is to democratize access to this gastronomic niche, in addition to positioning cities on the map of professionalization and consumption of specialty coffees in Brazil.
All participating establishments present a combo created exclusively for the festival, which will be served during the ten days of the event, at a promotional price of R$ 25. Among the 60 menu options, coffee appears proving all its versatility: brewed in different filtering methods; combined with milk in the form of cappuccinos (Italian and Brazilian), mocaccinos and lattes with varied ingredients; in cold drinks from espresso and cold brew; and even in drinks, alcoholic or not.
The savory foods that accompany the coffees range from traditional cheese bread, to croissants, bruschetta, quiches, sandwiches, empanadas and even couscous, tapioca and coxinha. For those who prefer to drink their coffee with something sweet, there are several options of brownies, pies, cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls and donuts.
In addition to the menus, Curitiba Coffee Week offers a free program of workshops, lectures and tastings, some of which have already closed for registration (check the list below). The opening party of the event is open to the public and takes place this Thursday (12), from 8 pm, at Royalty Café, with DJing and a limited edition of draft beer made by the Saint Pauli brewery with the house’s coffee. The celebration also celebrates the opening of the Brazilian Brewers Cup Championship, which takes place in Curitiba from Thursday to Saturday (12 to 14/10), and defines the best barista in the country in preparing filtered coffee.
