Cow price breaks record and raises the level of elite cattle – 06/21/2023 – Market

The sale of a third of a cow at an auction held last Friday (16) broke a world record and confirmed the rise in prices of elite cattle sold in Brazil to millionaire levels. With the sale value, R$ 6.993 million, the total price of the animal can reach around R$ 21 million.

The deal was closed at an HRO Experience Embryo auction, in Arandu (SP), and involved the Viatina-19 FIV Mara Móveis cow, which was already one of the most expensive Nellore animals sold at auctions.

In 2022, during Expozebu, the main livestock event in the country and which takes place in Uberaba, half of the cow had been sold for BRL 3.99 million (BRL 4.17 million, adjusted for inflation), which indicates a value total, in corrected amounts, of R$ 8.34 million.

Ownership of the animal had been shared since last year’s auction in the city of Minas Gerais between two partners, Casa Branca Agropastoril and Agropecuária Napemo, who decided to sell a third of the animal at last Friday’s auction. Viatina-19 FIV Mara Móveis is 53 months old and is considered one of the best Nellore cows in history.

The purchase of the animal was made by Nelore HRO, from Arandu, which became a partner of Casa Branca and Napemo, from Uberaba (which had bought half of the cow last year). 30 installments of R$ 233,100 will be paid.

The amounts involved are very high and place the elite cattle sold in the country at a new level. The cow resulted, in the last 12 months, in business that reached BRL 6.849 million, including pregnancies and calf, according to the White House.

Through her advisory, the director of the company, Fabiana Marques Borrelli, said that it is a “fantastic feeling” to share the genetics of Viatina-19 with HRO.

Viatina-19 was born on January 17, 2019 and is the daughter of Landau da Di Gênio, who in 2018 had 50% of her rights sold for R$ 1.26 million (R$ 1.69 million, adjusted for inflation). Also Landau’s daughter, Sophie Ourofino was sold for R$ 1.59 million (R$ 1.86 million) in a virtual auction in 2021.

Animals such as Viatina-19, great champion at Expoinel Minas from 2020 to 2022, among other awards, are extremely valued in the market for having genetic consistency, consecrated pedigree and productive characteristics that will be reflected in the field.

The objective of genetic improvement is for the animal to transfer the genetics to its descendants and for them to produce more meat in less time and less space, which means greater profitability for livestock farmers.

At this year’s Expozebu, R$ 140 million were generated in 35 auctions and four animal malls, which represented a 26% growth in relation to the revenue from the livestock fair last year.

One of the animals, the cow Strela FIV do Mura, had 50% of its rights sold for R$ 2.569 million.
