Paraná cheese producers have until March 1st to register for the Paraná Cheese Prize. Conceived and promoted by a management committee made up of several government institutions, the contest aims to promote artisanal and industrial cheeses produced in the state and strengthen the regional cheese chain.
The award has 19 categories aimed at varieties produced from cow, goat, sheep and buffalo milk. The expectation of the management committee is that between 300 and 400 cheeses participate in the contest.

One of the main aspects of the initiative is that the cheeses do not compete directly with each other. For this, they will be evaluated by a specialized bank and will receive points from 0 to 20, according to pre-established criteria.
Products that score 18 points or more will be awarded a gold medal. To receive a silver medal, you must score at least 16 points. Whoever scores 14 points gets bronze. The judging committee can also indicate the best cheeses to the final selection, which can be recognized with the super gold medal.
“It won’t be you against your neighbor. It will be you against your own quality. Each cheese will be evaluated by specialists, who will be trained to carry out an analysis from the sensory point of view, sanitary issues and other quality conditions, assigning a score according to the established criteria”, explains the president of the Cattle Technical Commission of Leite da FAEP, Ronei Volpi.
In addition to being able to use the medal seals on the packaging, the producers of the decorated cheeses will also receive other awards, ranging from management consultancy and packaging design to training focused on the production process. All participants will receive a technical report, with notes about their product.
The regulation and registration form are available on the website.
