Consumers can ‘look for dealerships and factories’ this Tuesday to buy a cheaper car, says Alckmin

The Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Industry and Commerce, Geraldo Alckmin, told GloboNews this Monday (5) that the population will be able to find cheaper popular cars at dealerships and factories as early as this Tuesday (6). On Monday, Alckmin and the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, announced a program to make passenger cars, trucks and buses cheaper. In all, the government will allocate R$ 1.5 billion for automakers to pay for the reduction and then use this credit to deduct future taxes (understand the criteria below). “Starting tomorrow […] they can look for dealerships, factories, which will already be in effect”, said Alckmin. “So, there will be a reduction in light vehicles, of up to R$ 120,000, from R$ 2,000 to R$ 8,000. In percentage, from 1.6% to 11.6%, the reduction, plus what the industry will give. I have no doubt that the reduction will be much greater”, he said. The government tries, thus, to give a stimulus to the industry and encourage the consumer, to move the economy. Critics of the program denounce the incentive to fossil fuels. Car sales discounts will be exclusive to individuals in the first 15 days, a period that can be extended for up to 60 days, depending on the market response. After that, companies will also be able to benefit from the program. Trucks and buses The program also provides discounts for purchase of trucks and buses. In the first 15 days of the MP, as well as for passenger cars, the rules apply only to purchases by individuals. In the case of heavy vehicles, the MP is valid for those who: own or have bought a truck or buses with more than 20 years of manufacture; sent this vehicle for recycling – proof will be required at the time of purchase. With this, according to Alckmin, the government tries to renew the fleet of heavy vehicles in the country. The new trucks and buses have better technology and meet new international standards for filtering emissions – that is, they pollute less. The discounts here vary according to the price of the vehicle. For trucks, the discount range ranges from R$33,600 to R$80,300. For buses, the discount ranges from R$38,000 to R$99,400.
