The growth forecast for the construction industry for this year, which the CBIC (sector confederation) releases this Tuesday (11), will show a difficult prognosis, according to José Carlos Martins, president of the entity.
He claims that, at the projected pace, only in 2032 will construction be able to resume the peak of its activities registered between 2013 and 2014.
According to Martins, currently, the sector’s performance remains 17% below the level registered a decade ago, a situation aggravated by the effect of interest rates.
“One of the problems is that the money in savings is running out. The future expectation of mortgage financing is very bad. And with high interest rates, economic activity always tends to be reduced. Even if it doesn’t get worse, we will need to wait for 2032 to to be what we once were”, says the president of CBIC.
