The four-day show features films from a variety of genres.

Manaus (AM) – The Contemporary Spanish Film Festival opens this Tuesday (7/18) and continues until the 21st, always at 6:30 pm, at Cineteatro Guarany, on Avenida Sete de Setembro, attached to the Rio Negro Palace, downtown. During the four days, films awarded in different categories of international film festivals will be presented, with the aim of revealing the cultural and linguistic diversity of Spain and its different autonomous communities.

The Contemporary Spanish Film Festival in Manaus is a partnership between the Embassy of Spain and the Government of Amazonas, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy. “It is very interesting to carry out this cultural exchange, so that the Amazonian public has the opportunity to experience a cinematographic experience that is different from what they usually have in their daily lives. The goal is to really mix the cultures”, said the Secretary of Culture and Creative Economy of Amazonas, Marcos Apolo Muniz, about the purpose of the program.

The film “Campeões (Campeones)” by Javier Fesser will be screened at the premiere on Tuesday. The main genre is comedy, and the work is 124 minutes long.

The film tells the story of Marco, a professional basketball coach who finds himself one day in the midst of a personal crisis, coaching a team made up of people with intellectual disabilities. The rating is free for all audiences.

On Wednesday (7/19), the work presented will be “O Que Arde (Lo Que Arde)”, by director Óliver Laxe. The protagonist is Amador, a notorious Galician arsonist who, after leaving prison, lives a quiet life in the small village where he was born, until his daily life is interrupted when a fire in a nearby forest devastates the region. The film, from 2019, has a duration of 85 minutes. Fitting within the drama genre, the feature is not recommended for children under 14 years old.

On Thursday (07/20), two works will be shown on the same day, both in the documentary genre. With a duration of 75 minutes, “Generación: Buñuel Lorca Y Dalí”, traces the trajectory of the golden trio of the Spanish culture of the 20th century, Luis Buñuel, Federico García Lorca and Salvador Dalí, as never seen before.

The documentary “Terra de Pandeiretas” lasts 18 minutes and shows the richness of music and cultural tradition in northeastern Spain, bringing to the viewer the musicality and orality passed down from generation to generation, with women as the main link. Both documentaries have free classification.

Closing the program, on Friday (07/21), the movie theater will receive the film “Yuli”, directed by Icíar Bollaín. Yuli is a talented dancer who, despite pressure from his family, doesn’t want to be a dancer. Forced to take classes with a teacher committed to making him a great artist, Yuli begins to make history in the city where he lives, and soon finds himself forced to make a difficult decision.

The work mixes themes from the drama and biography genres in the plot. The duration of the feature is 115 minutes, and the indicative rating is for over 12 years old.

All films in the exhibition will be shown in their entirety, in their original versions and languages, with subtitles in Portuguese.
