The Spanish chef Daniel Redondo (photo), one of the founders of the award-winning Maní restaurant, died at the age of 46 after a car accident. Redondo was married to chef Helena Rizzo, with whom he founded Maní. The couple separated in 2017.

“I woke up today with the sad news of Dani’s departure, my old life and work partner. We hadn’t spoken for many years… since our separation. We went through a lot together… incredible and difficult moments, of construction and learning… Owner of a giant and generous heart, without him Mani wouldn’t be what he is today! Wherever you are, all my love and gratitude for the good things we experienced together”, wrote the chef on social media.

The team at the restaurant founded by Redondo and Helena also published a note of condolence this Saturday morning.

“This morning we received the sad news that chef Daniel Redondo left. Talented, committed, technical, rigorous and, at times, even a little surly, but adorable, sweet and beloved. Without him, there would be no Maní. Not at least the way the restaurant was designed, almost 18 years ago. He shared command of the kitchen for 11 years with Helena, his former partner. Together, they wrote an important chapter in the history of Brazilian gastronomy until his departure from society in 2017. Rest easy In peace, Dani, dear. To the family, our condolences and deepest condolences.”
