Cheese from SC is the best in the region at the World Cheese Awards – 10/31/2023 – Food

The World Cheese Awards 2023, which brings together cheeses from different parts of the world, awarded last Friday (27) Morro Azul cheese, produced by Pomerode Alimentos in Santa Catarina, as the best in Latin America.

4,000 products from 40 countries participated in the competition, which were analyzed by experts from different nationalities. In trios, the judges evaluated skin, body, texture, consistency and flavor.

According to the quality assessed, the cheese received bronze, silver or gold medals. Then, each group of judges nominated a candidate for the highest weight category: super gold.

It was this medal that Morro Azul cheese from Pomerode received, which earned it the title of best cheese in the region.

The product is made in a process that retains moisture to provide creaminess. Afterwards, it receives salt and is wrapped in a wooden strap that guarantees its structure.

According to Pomerode Alimentos, the cheese is free from lactose, which is eliminated naturally in the production of matured cheeses. The product is already out of stock on the company’s website.

Another 22 Brazilian cheeses also received medals: 3 gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze.

Two gold medals were also awarded to Pomerode for the 12-month and three-month vale do testo cheeses, both semi-hard with washed rinds. Both are sold for R$ 27.95 (150 g).

Completing the list of golds is britannia blue, from Queijaria Belafazenda, in Bofete (SP), with an unctuous and creamy dough. It costs R$50 (180g) on ​​the company’s website.
