The Carnival of Manaus, promoted by the State Government, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, opens the calendar of popular festivals in the state, having as its greatest expression the festivity represented in the parades of the samba schools at the Centro de Convenções Professor Gilberto Mestrinho , the Sambadrome in Manaus.
And in the months that precede the official parades, several rehearsals take place in the communities, occupying the blocks of the samba schools and streets of the neighborhood.
This year, Access Group B schools will perform on February 16; Access Group A, on the 17th; and the Special Group parade on Avenida do Samba on February 18th.
The secretary of Culture and Creative Economy, Marcos Apolo Muniz, points out that the rehearsals in the neighborhoods, in addition to inviting revelers to honor the Amazonian carnival, heat up the economy and local commerce.
“Carnival marks the beginning of cultural celebrations in the state, and the entire production chain is busy with rehearsals on the courts. People have a preview of what will be presented in the official parades, at the Sambódromo, and they also encourage the creative economy in the communities”, comments Apolo.
It is during rehearsals that the drums, considered the “heart of the samba school”, infect passers-by, revelers and other members. To set the pace, the Special Group schools carry out a schedule of weekly “warm ups” in the courts of the samba schools and in the streets of the neighborhoods of origin.
