The year 2023 started with a lot of news in K-pop.
Among the releases, “OMG”, by NewJeans, stands out, which entered the Billboard Hot 100 at position 91, yielding the second song by the rookie group to conquer space on the US music chart, shortly after “Ditto”, released on 19 December 2022.
Another notable comeback was that of TWICE, with their second single in English, “Moonlight Sunrise”, which also entered the Hot 100 at number 84. This was also the second time that the group took a song to the ranking. The previous one occurred with “The Feels”, TWICE’s first English single, released on October 1, 2021.
It is also worth mentioning the music video for the single “VIBE”, by Taeyang, a member of BIGBANG, in partnership with Jimin, from BTS. With 65 million views to date, this song marked Taeyang’s first solo release in six years. The song was another of South Korean origin to enter the Billboard Hot 100, occupying the 76th place.
