Cars: Dealerships prepare incentive project – 07/04/2023 – Market

Fenabrave (the federation that represents dealerships) said this Tuesday (4) that it is preparing a new program suggestion to follow up on the federal government’s measure that offers discounts for cars of up to R$ 120,000.

According to José Maurício Andreta Júnior, president of the entity, the technical studies will consider issues such as maintenance of collection by the government, affordable price, impact on the environment and credit.

“There has to be a sequel to this work. We, at Fenabrave, already have our technical staff working on this. We presented a study back there [antes da medida atual do governo]. We are now reviewing. We are going to start studying what happened so that we can propose a better project to the government than the first one”, said Andreta Júnior.

Fenabrave also presented, this Tuesday, the results of June car sales. Light commercial vehicles, which benefited from the government’s program that offers discounts for cars, registered 179.7 thousand registrations last month, which represents growth of 8.02% in relation to May.

Compared to the same period last year, sales of these models increased by 8.61%.

When adding trucks and buses, the monthly increase was 7.39%, with 189.5 thousand registrations in total.

Also according to Andreta Jr., if it weren’t for the program created by the Mdic (Ministry of Industry), the sector would be revising downwards growth for this year. Despite pointing to a more positive scenario, Andreta Jr. says that it is still too early to increase the projection of high of 3.3% in sales for the year.

Last week, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) signed a provisional measure that increased the resources allocated to the program by another R$ 300 million – before that, R$ 500 million had already been invested.

According to Tereza Fernandez, consultant at Fenabrave, the current major problem in the sector is the lack of access to credit by consumers, which stems from high default rates.
