For CNC president José Roberto Tadros, the main obstacle to restoring revenues to pre-pandemic levels is the current less favorable economic context. “Price readjustments in practically all segments, the significant increase in interest rates and the high commitment of income to debt mean that spending on leisure is moderate, but still considerably higher than in 2021”, he says. In the last 12 months ended in December, the price of airline tickets accumulated an average high of 23.53%, according to official inflation (IPCA). Other services demanded at this time of the year, such as lodging (18.21%) and tourist packages (17.16%) also had increases above the variation in the general price level (5.79%). “Often consumed in installments, the demand for these services collides with the currently less favorable credit conditions. The average interest rate on loans and financing freely obtained by individuals reached 59% per year – the highest level since August 2017 (62.3 % per year). This phenomenon, combined with the historically high level of indebtedness of consumers in recent months, certainly appears as an obstacle to the expansion of spending on leisure”, says the CNC.
