Carnival: see easy drink recipes – 02/18/2023 – Food

Preparing drink recipes is not a difficult task and can work as a refreshment for those who want to rest at home after enjoying the Carnival party on the street.

Below, two recipes focus on simple ingredients and allow for item substitutions —and, better yet, they can be made to enjoy with a group of friends.

The suggestion from Mercearia do Conde, a restaurant in Jardim Paulistano, west of São Paulo, takes sparkling wine, juices and fruit, with a yield of five glasses. With a similar structure, the version at Bistrot de Paris, a restaurant in Villa San Pietro, on Rua Augusta, is made with red wine.

The last one is the most elaborate, for those who want to enjoy the holiday and try a less common everyday preparation.

Valencia vase

Yield: 5 servings

Ingredients

• 1 bottle of brut sparkling wine
• 1 liter of homemade tangerine juice (about 12 units) or purchased ready-made; if not, replace with orange
• 6 large, fresh, cleaned strawberries
• 2 ripe and firm kiwis
• ½ peeled Fuji apple
• ¼ ripe mango
• 100 ml or 2 shots of grenadine (or currant syrup)
• honey to taste
• Lemon juice
• ice cubes

Method of preparation:

Cut the fruits into cubes and mix with honey and lemon juice. In a large pitcher put the mixture of fruits, ice (as much as you want) and tangerine juice. Then, gradually add the sparkling wine, so as not to make too much foam, and, lastly, the grenadine. Serve in a flute glass (the same as the sparkling wine).

Sangrita Bistrot Paris

Yield: 5 servings

Ingredients

• 150ml orange juice
• 120 ml lemon juice
• 1 shot of Tequila (50 ml)
• 1 shot Triple sec (50 ml) (if you don’t have it, use white vermouth)
• 750ml red wine (preferably from Cabernet Sauvignon)
• 5 slices of lemon for garnish
• 5 slices of orange to decorate
• zest of 1 lemon
• sugar to taste
• salt to taste
• Water
• crushed ice cubes

Method of preparation:

In a pitcher, place the red wine, orange juice, lime juice, tequila, Triple sec, lime and orange slices. Take it to the fridge until it cools down well. Wet the rim of the bowls and then put the mixture of sugar, salt and lemon zest in a dish. Dip the rim of the bowl through the mixture, forming a rim. Place a slice of lemon, an orange and the minced meat in the bowl. Add the chilled liquid from the pitcher and garnish with a slice of lemon and orange.

Mark Twain Cocktail

Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

• 60 ml (2 shots of 30 ml measuring cup) Scotch whiskey
• 22.5 ml (3/4 shot) lemon juice
• 15 ml (1/2 cup) sugar syrup
• 2 dashes (2 “shakes”) Angostura Bitters

Method of preparation:

To make the syrup, heat one part water and an equal part sugar and let it dissolve over low heat. Before using, wait for it to cool down. Add all ingredients, including Angostura, to a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well. Strain into a lowball glass with ice.
