BYD’s lithium iron phosphate battery factory was opened in 2020, with an initial investment of 15 million reais in an area of 5 thousand square meters
Manaus (AM) — BYD announced this Monday (25) that it will expand production of batteries for heavy vehicles in the Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM), based on the definition of a Basic Production Process (PPB) signed with the government. The information is from the Uol website.
The PPB establishes minimum manufacturing steps that companies must comply with to manufacture a given product and thus be entitled to tax benefits from the industrial hub.
The agreement involves the Ministries of Development and Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI). The request to define the PPB for the production of these batteries came from the automaker, which has invested in Brazil and started building an electrified car factory in Camaçari, Bahia, last year.
BYD’s special advisor, Alexandre Baldy, said in a statement that the PPB will help accelerate the “irreversible” process of electrification of the bus fleet.
During the PPB’s public consultation phase, there were contributions from WEG and Moura, which already manufacture the batteries in Brazil, the government stated.
BYD’s lithium iron phosphate battery factory was opened in 2020, with an initial investment of 15 million reais in an area of 5 thousand square meters. The current production capacity is 1 Gwz of batteries per year, intended to supply the company’s electric buses assembled in Campinas (SP).
