At Easter this year, Britney Spears shared a video on social media of an egg filled with chocolate and covered in colorful sprinkles. In the caption, she wrote: “I really like chocolate.” The sweet was from a Brazilian confectionery, Flakes, in Porto Velho, Rondônia.

With the publication of the little American pop princess, the sweet shop gained prominence and even more followers — the restaurant already had 612 thousand on Instagram. Two months later, Flakes crossed the country and gained two units in São Paulo. The last of them, opened in August, in Brooklyn.

“It was something very unusual,” says confectioner Leonardo Borges, who started selling sweets at the medical school he was attending. “There was a viral video of us with 5 million views that appeared to Britney. She reposted it and tagged our profile. I even thought it was a joke.”

The São Paulo headquarters is located in Itaim Bibi, on the ground floor of a commercial building, with all the decoration in pistachio green. The color is on the walls, ceiling, counter, furniture, plates and cups. In the middle of the room, a vintage-style Porsche in the same color catches your eye.

The car, owned by the confectionery owner himself, who is passionate about the luxury brand, serves as an adornment in the space and as a backdrop for taking photos for social media, as customers can enter the car to strike poses. Signs with English words and neon phrases reinforce the place’s Instagrammable vibe.

In the window, a traditional French confectionery sweet, the éclair, the flagship, mixes with Brazilian creations that exaggerate in sugar, such as the so-called pot cakes and pot of happiness. These have layers such as brigadeiro, Ninho milk, strawberry, whipped cream and even pudding on top.

The top orderer is the éclair filled with pistachio ganache, strawberry, Ninho milk mousse, pistachio topping and red fruit jelly (R$ 39.90). Other choux pastry fillings include Sicilian lemon, brigadeiro with strawberry and red velvet, among others (from R$ 19.90).

There are also truffles for R$9.90, stuffed cones from R$19.90, iced pineapple cake with coconut for R$14 and stuffed brownies from R$15.50. The most affordable sweet is the brigadeiro, which costs R$ 7.50.

The second location, in Brooklin, follows the same line in terms of menu and decor, but only works with a pickup system.
