Two letters were delivered personally to the artist’s residence by the Brazilian woman
A Brazilian woman is being accused of stalking singer Harry Styles in England. Myra Carvalho, as she was identified, is 35 years old and sent more than 8 thousand letters to the artist in less than a month. A hearing in the case took place at Harrow Crown Court, in London, this Tuesday (20).
According to prosecutors, two letters were personally delivered to the artist’s residence by the Brazilian woman and some of the cards were sent expressing sexual desires and asking the singer to marry her.
The Brazilian arrived in the English capital in December 2023 and would have traveled to the country without the knowledge of her family.
Myra had been staying at a hostel in Earl’s Court, west London, since December, without her parents’ knowledge. She was accused of harassment “amounting to stalking”, having caused “alarm and stress”, and reported to the court, according to the Daily Mail, that she knew she was “causing substantial harm to Harry’s everyday life”.
According to the Daily Mail newspaper, Myra’s parents were present at the hearing. Her participation took place remotely, through a video call, while she was detained at HMP Bronzefield women’s prison.
She was arrested by English authorities at the end of January for causing the artist “serious alarm and distress” because of “conduct — namely harassment — that amounted to persecution”.
The Brazilian woman’s charge was processed on January 23, when she appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrate’s Court.
According to the accusations, the woman’s actions had a “adverse effect substantial part of Styles’ usual day-to-day activities. A source linked to the Daily Mail stated that the singer was “really shaken”, and that Harry just wants to continue with his routine, but that the situation is “worrying”.
Brazilian defense points to “manic episode”
Lawyer Clementine Simon, responsible for Myra’s defense, stated that her client’s doctor in Brazil believes that she was going through a “manic episode” and questioned whether it would be appropriate for her to go through legal proceedings.
The judge responsible for the case, Karim Ezzat, scheduled a new hearing for the day April 19th. Until then, the Brazilian will remain in judicial custody.
