Brazilian picanha is the best dish in the world in 2023, according to the TasteAtlas Awards 23/24, an international ranking of the 100 best cuisines and dishes. According to the annual list, the traditional barbecue cut, located in the upper rear part of the ox, was ahead of Roti Canai bread, from Malaysia, and the Thai stir-fry Phat Kaphrao.
“One of the most popular grilled meats in Brazil, picanha is both the name of the dish and the name of the cut used to prepare the dish,” explained the publication. “[A picanha] It is one of the pillars of Brazilian steakhouses, where it is served accompanied by dishes such as farofa, rice and beans, and vinaigrette”, he noted.
Also according to the platform, the picanha cut in the United States is also known as Coulotte steak and is not easily found, as it is usually included in three other different cuts of meat: loin, rump or round. “So, if your butcher doesn’t know picanha, when buying, ask for a picanha from above with the layer of fat on the meat”, suggests the publication.
