Rescuing the history of the Amazonian Carnival and reliving a time when the parades took place, informally, in the center of Manaus, is one of the proposals of “Carnaval do Povão”. The project takes place this Thursday and Friday and Sunday (9th, 10th and 12th), from 8 pm, bringing the Experimental Group, formed by street blocks and samba schools, to parade in a structure set up in Mindu Norte square , Alameda Alphaville, Novo Aleixo neighborhood, north of Manaus.

The attraction is part of the set of actions of “Carnival in the Forest – Amazonas 2023 Government of Amazonas presents integrated actions and investment of R$ 13 million for ‘Carnival in the Forest’”, promoted by the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy. Conceived by the Instituto de Inovação Desportivo e Cultural do Amazonas (Idama) and by the União das Escolas de Samba do Amazonas (Uesam), the Carnaval do Povão takes place for the first time in Manaus.

The Secretary of State for Culture, Marcos Apolo Muniz, points out that the event takes carnival attractions closer to communities and drives the creative economy.

“With the project, residents of various areas of Manaus have access to a Carnival program, in addition to encouraging the formation of new blocks and samba schools. The community and residents of adjacent neighborhoods also find the opportunity to reinforce their income by selling products, making costumes and props, among other activities that are part of the production chain of Carnival”, he said.

Schedule

On Thursday, the first night of “Carnaval do Povão”, street blocks parade from 8 pm onwards. On Friday, it will be the turn of the samba schools to take the theme and joy of the revelers to the avenue, in a 40-minute presentation for each. The groups are in the following order:

8 p.m. – GRES of Love
8:40 pm – GRES União Leste
21:20 – GRES Youth of the Union
10pm – GRES Império do Cajual
10:40 pm – GRES Academicos do Rio Negro

On Sunday, at 2 pm, the revelers will meet the champion association, which rises to Access Group B of the Samba Schools of Manaus. On the same day, at 7 pm, the rhythm of “two for there and two for here” will begin, with the opening of “Esquenta do Carnaboi”. More than 30 attractions will start the cattle season in Manaus.

After opening in Novo Aleixo, “Esquenta do Carnaboi” will be held from February 13 to 22, in Parque Largo do Mestre Chico, on Praça 14 de Janeiro, in the south zone of Manaus. At the venue, from 7 pm until midnight, the artists perform with the best tunes by the Caprichoso and Garantido oxen. The warm-up is a “warm-up” for the traditional Carnaboi party, which takes place on February 25th and 26th, at the Prof. Gilberto Mestrinho – Manaus Sambadrome.
