Bivalent vaccine against Covid is applied to 1.3 million in SP – 03/13/2023 – Health

The state of São Paulo has so far vaccinated 1,371,367 people with the bivalent Pfizer dose. The number represents 17% of the target audience, which is 7,975,409.

At this stage, people over 60 years old, individuals living in long-term institutions from 12 years old —sheltered and workers—, immunocompromised people and residents of indigenous, riverside and quilombola communities are eligible.

In the capital of São Paulo, until last Friday (10th), 500,166 people took the bivalent Pfizer, equivalent to 26% of the target audience, which is 1,911,591 people from São Paulo.

Pregnant women and postpartum women will be in the next priority group that will receive the bivalent, starting March 20, according to the Ministry of Health’s calendar. Until then, in the capital of São Paulo, they – and health workers – can sign up for the remaining doses. Just go to the reference unit with proof of address.

In order to get vaccinated, you must have the complete basic scheme or have received one or two booster doses, respecting the four-month interval since the last vaccine applied.

Bivalent vaccines use the original strain of the coronavirus, first identified in Wuhan, and different strains of the omicron variant. This updated version has proven to be more effective in the current pandemic scenario, where omicron stresses are the main cause of infections.

In clinical studies and analyzes of real-life use of bivalents, no risks associated with receiving the bivalent booster that could contraindicate its application were found.

There is also no contraindication to receiving the Covid vaccine in conjunction with other immunizers, such as the flu.

In the city of São Paulo, vaccination against Covid-19 takes place at the UBS (Basic Health Units) and at the AMAs (Outpatient Medical Assistance)/Integrated UBSs, from Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 7 pm, and on Saturdays, in the integrated AMAs/UBSs, also from 7am to 7pm.
