Workshop teaches the making and handling of instruments produced with materials from the forest
Manaus (AM) – The Amazonian Bioinstruments course started its classes last Monday (06/12) with all 15 available vacancies filled. The activity closed the registrations on June 6, and takes place at the Lyceum of Arts and Crafts Cláudio Santoro, located in the Sambódromo.
“It is a unique moment, in which the Amazon takes possession of what is its own with instruments made from elements of the forest itself, and with wonderful and unique sounds”, said maestro Davi Nunes, director of the Lyceum.
The initiative aims to stimulate a creative process of making percussion musical instruments and sound effects, using natural organisms, such as gourds, seeds, hedgehogs, among others.
At the end of the course, an Amazonian Bioinstruments Practice Group will be created, giving students a space to work professionally in the making and music of the instruments they manufacture.
Vânia Rosas, a student at the workshop, said she is interested in entering the music market and working with the bioinstruments she is learning to make. “As soon as I saw the ad, I was already interested in doing it, to be sure that it is something that I will adapt well, and that will add to my career. I definitely want to join the group very much,” she reiterated.
The course is given by the Amazonian singer, musician and poet Celdo Braga. According to the instructor, the objective is that the instruments, in addition to sound, have the aesthetics of works of art. “I’m sure the first thing these students will learn is to love the Amazon. We don’t love what we don’t know”, said Celdo, who already sees the opportunities that future artisans will find in their professional and financial lives.
According to the board of the arts school, new classes are already planned for the course from the second semester of 2023, with registration dates to be announced.
The Bioinstruments Course is organized by the Government of Amazonas, through the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy and Lyceum of Arts and Crafts Cláudio Santoro.
