Desenrola Track 1 participants cannot participate

People with outstanding debts with financial institutions have until this Monday (15) to participate in the 2024 edition of the Negotiation and Financial Guidance Task Force. The initiative is promoted every year by the Central Bank (BC), the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), the National Consumer Secretariat of the Ministry of Justice and Procons across the country.

Overdue debts without assets pledged as collateral can be negotiated. Among the debts targeted by the collective effort are those related to credit cards, special checks, personal loans and other types of credit contracted with banks and financial institutions. Debts with assets given as collateral (such as vehicles, motorcycles and real estate), prescribed debts and contracts with installments up to date cannot be renegotiated.

Citizens interested in participating in the collective effort can request renegotiation with the financial institutions where they have debts. The complete list of service channels is available on this page.

The debtor can also request renegotiation through the Consumidor.gov.br portal or through the Procons that have joined the initiative. Other information about the Negotiation and Financial Guidance Task Force is available here.

Recommendations

The Central Bank provides tips so that citizens can better prepare themselves for renegotiation. Firstly, the debtor must consult the Registry to find out what his outstanding debts are. Then, you should access Febraban’s tips for planning your household budget and understanding how renegotiation will affect your financial life.

Another recommendation is to access the Meu Bolso em Dia platform. The page provides guidance and training so that citizens can continue to learn how to deal with money and improve their financial health. The BC also offers financial education actions.

Restrictions

The BC clarifies that the joint effort is not recommended for everyone. People who meet the requirements to negotiate under Track 1 of the Desenrola Brasil Program should seek to renegotiate their debts through this program, which offers more advantageous conditions, such as an average discount of 83% of the total debt, reaching up to 96%.

Range 1 of Desenrola covers debts of up to R$5,000 for those who have an income of up to two minimum wages or are registered in the Federal Government’s Single Registry for Social Programs (CadÚnico). More information can be obtained on the official Desenrola page.

Those who are over-indebted, as provided for in Law 14,181/2021, have the right to global and simultaneous renegotiation with all creditors. This law allows for more appropriate agreements than individual negotiation with each bank and an effective solution to the problem of over-indebtedness.

People in a situation of over-indebtedness should seek specialized help from consumer protection and defense bodies. More guidance can be found here.
