Association defends the economic potential of tourist floats in Manaus

In the understanding of the association, it is possible to reconcile tourism, leisure and respect for the environment

Mnaus (AM) – From June to September, in the so-called Amazonian summer, every weekend, around two thousand people use the transport of vessels known as voadeiras to travel in the Tarumã-Açu Basin, most of them going to the floating boats located in that region , one of the favorite leisure options for city residents and tourists visiting the capital of Amazonas.

The data are from the Cooperative of River Transport Professionals of Marina do Davi – ACAMDAF, responsible for controlling pilots and vessels that transit in that area. The possible removal of floaters worries the entity as the transport directed to the leisure of bathers could end, leading to the end of the livelihood of thousands of workers who depend on the economic activity that was consolidated in that region.

“Floaters move everyone’s finances: those who transport, those who sell ice, gas stations, which also generate taxes, even for those who sell bathing suits here in the marina area. It is an entire economic chain that grows through the activity of tourist floats. Many only have this bread to take home”,

comments the director of the cooperative, Flávio Gonçalves.

A group that mobilizes in defense of the organization and ordering of floating is the Association of Floating River Tarumã-Açu (Afluta). According to the associates’ point of view, the floating boats gave the city a new option for leisure and tourism, helped boost the region’s economy and democratized access to an area previously restricted to a privileged few.

In the association’s understanding, it is possible to reconcile tourism, leisure and respect for the environment, preserving the region without restricting access to the collective heritage of these natural beauties, like so many natural tourist spots in Brazil and in the world.

The Association states that most of the floating boats located in the region meet all the necessary requirements for their operation before the responsible body, the Institute for Environmental Protection of Amazonas (IPAAM). They also say that State Law No. 3,785, of 2012, authorizes licensing in Amazonas for the construction and operation of activities that use environmental resources, including establishments called “floating restaurants”.

“We are aware that Tarumã is a natural heritage that we must preserve for future generations. For this reason, we work to order, raise awareness and adapt those who need to be adequate, discuss responsible environmental regulation, but also socially. Today, the floating boats are the leisure of many families and the livelihood of many workers”,

declared the president of Afluta, Nildo Affonso.
