After heavy rains over the weekend, around 2 million properties were left without electricity in the capital of São Paulo; a situation that, for thousands of them, lasted for days. The general director of Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency), Sandoval Feitosa, stated this Tuesday (7) that the agency has already requested the formal opening of administrative processes to determine responsibility for the blackout in São Paulo. After heavy rain over the weekend, around 2.1 million properties were left without electricity in the capital of São Paulo. To date, 200,000 still remain in this condition. The blackout generated criticism of the actions of Enel, a private energy concessionaire in São Paulo. “We inform that technicians from Aneel and Arsesp are carrying out inspection procedures, collecting information and monitoring the recomposition process, and the formal opening of inspection processes by the company has already been requested to determine responsibilities, evaluate service recomposition procedures and apply appropriate sanctions,” he said. According to Feitosa, Aneel’s board of directors advised that there be a “rigorous investigation” of responsibilities. “We know that its origin was due to a strong and serious climatic event, however, citizens must have their electricity service restored as soon as possible”, he stated. The general director also said that an agreement was signed with the distributors, on Monday (6), to prioritize the compensation processes for electrical damages caused by the blackout. According to distributor Enel, on Tuesday morning (7), 200,000 properties in Greater São Paulo were still without power. It is the fourth day without electricity since the storm that interrupted part of the services on Friday (3). According to the company, energy was restored to more than 90% of customers whose supply was impacted.
