Amazonian crafts raise R$5 million in 2023

Manaus (AM) — Crafts from Amazonas raised R$5,186,944 in sales at fairs and national events in 2023. The result was released, on Tuesday (19), by the Department of Crafts and Solidarity Economy (Daes), linked to Executive Secretariat for Labor and Entrepreneurship (Setemp), an organ of the State Secretariat for Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Sedecti).

In total, 4,356 artisans benefited in 2023, directly and indirectly. The professionals had their work exhibited at fairs, exhibitions and at the Shopping do Artesanato e Economy Solidária, where many can display and promote products such as cosmetics, household items, eco-jewelry, bio-jewelry, basketry, clothing, cloth toys, sweets, among others.

As determined by the governor of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, the Amazonian handicraft segment currently has support from the State Government in the marketing of products, through participation in four national fairs per year, and in local events. There was an increase in the number of artisans benefiting and in the number of sales in value and quantity of artisanal products, compared to the year 2022.

The executive secretary of Labor and Entrepreneurship, Paulo Gilson, assesses that fairs and exhibitions encourage the development of Amazonian crafts as a great economic alternative.

“These events are a great opportunity to promote local culture to other parts of the country. And not only that, but enabling the participation of our artisans from Amazonas means generating income, supporting families, and also having a positive impact on the economy of our state”, the

More Amazon Credit

With the aim of further enabling the generation of employment and income, the Executive Secretariat for Labor and Entrepreneurship (Setemp) became a partner office of the Amazonas State Development Agency (Afeam), providing the opportunity for a line of credit to artisans and entrepreneurs . And, in 2023, the program benefited 89 artisans and supportive entrepreneurs, releasing more than R$643 thousand in a credit line.

State highlight

At the state level, the 18th Crafts and Solidarity Economy Exhibition, which took place in the municipality of Parintins (369 kilometers from Manaus), generated the highest revenue in 2023, a total of R$ 969,959, including orders placed, surpassing the year 2022, which generated income of R$530,181.

National highlight

The manual arts of Amazonas also stood out in fairs outside the state, such as the 23rd edition of the National Crafts Business Fair (Fenearte), in Olinda (PE). The event provided professionals with around R$477,789 in sales and product orders.

Valuation

The Head of the Department of Crafts and Solidarity Economy, Claudia Monteiro, highlighted the importance of the crafts segment in Amazonas.

“Amazonian crafts are a segment recognized worldwide. And showing the strength of this segment is important for these artisans. I thank Governor Wilson Lima and First Lady Taiana Lima for all their support for the state’s artisans,”
