Amazonian artists are highlights of the national comic week

The Municipal Foundation for Culture, Tourism and Events (Manauscult), supports the 5th edition of the “Manaus National Comics Week”, and on this third day of programming that celebrates Brazilian artists and their works. The action is free and takes place at the Public Library of Amazonas, located at Rua Barroso, 57, Centro.

Over the three days, the “National Comics Week of Manaus”, had a rotating audience of approximately 320 visitors.

“Manauscult is once again supporting the organization of Comics Week, an event that brought together several comic book professionals not only from the North region, but from all over the country. We have this mission to provide artists from our land with this exchange of information and exchange of experiences and to help, through these activities, in technical improvement and to allow Amazonian readers access to the work of renowned national artists”, said the director-president from Manauscult, Alonso Oliveira.

According to the event’s curator, Evaldo Vasconcelos, the “National Comics Week” arose from the idea of ​​being a bridge between the public and local artists with artists and publishers from the national market.

“When the event first appeared, it was merely a fair. From the second year, we started offering workshops and lectures. In the third year, it was digital due to the pandemic and in the fourth year the event was held in several locations. The central part was in the public library. For this year, we brought two publishers: Guará from Rio de Janeiro and Zapata from São Paulo”, he added.

One of the highlights of the event is the “Artists’ Alley”, a comic book fair that this year will receive artists from Pará, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Brasília and a delegation of artists from Roraima.

Among the speakers, one of the highlights is the Colombian comic artist Sindy Infante, who will give the lecture, next Saturday, (4th), starting at 6 pm, “Cooking Elephants, Comic’s Creative Process”. The author has a master’s degree in children’s book illustration from the Cambridge School of Art, England. Author of the comic book Elefantes en el cuarto and Co-author of the comic book Recetario de flavors lejanos. She has given lectures and workshops on illustration, drawing and graphic storytelling at book fairs and festivals in different countries such as Chile, Mexico, Norway and Panama.
