Amazonas will receive more than 7 thousand cruise passengers in March

Manaus (AM) – Amazonas will receive more than 7 thousand cruise passengers throughout the month of March. The sixth ship of the season, the Viking Sea was received, this Thursday (2nd), by the Government of Amazonas, through the State Tourism Company (Amazonastur). The reception took place at Cais das Torres, in the Port of Manaus.

In all, the Amazon should receive eight cruises, the highest number of ships of the season. Of the quantity, five ships arrive for the first time in the Amazon. The one at Viking Sea brings 2,240 people, including passengers and crew, from San Juan, in Puerto Rico.

Since the beginning of the 2022/2023 cruise season, which started in November, Viking Sea is the sixth ship to dock in Manaus. In March, 7,150 cruise passengers are expected, with around 4,700 passengers and around 2,300 crew members.

“The expectation is very high in this cruise season, the first post-pandemic, and the month of March is the one in which we receive the most ships, which come with destinations to Manaus and Parintins, in the Serra da Valéria region. And this increasingly positions the Amazon destination nationally and internationally in a positive way. It is important to emphasize that this represents hard work, as determined by Governor Wilson Lima, for ordering, formatting and promoting the Amazonas destination”, said the president of Amazonastur, Gustavo Sampaio.

The ship Viking Sea was, on Wednesday (1st / 03), in the city of Parintins (369 kilometers from Manaus), where tourists disembarked to participate in tourist routes around the city and discover the folkloric manifestation of the Bumbás Garantido and Caprichoso.

“This ship was in Parintins yesterday, and one of the striking things was the image of a tricycle rider receiving in dollars, and thanking the State Government very much. In this we see the importance of the social function of this season in the lives of people in our region who receive this resource for their families. Tourism is not just leisure, it is the driver of employment and income”, emphasized Gustavo Sampaio.

Satisfaction survey

A satisfaction survey carried out by Amazonastur, between November 2022 and January of this year, showed that 87.9% of cruise passengers approved the Amazonas destination.

Visitors responded about safety, restaurants, typical food, hospitality, leisure options, among others. Considering data up to January, Amazonas recorded the entry of 7,932 cruise passengers, according to the statistics sector of Amazonastur. The estimate is to receive around 17,186 visitors, including passengers and crew, by the end of the season.
