Amazonas Dance Corps performs for the first time in Rio de Janeiro

With 25 years of operation, and for the first time in the city of Rio, the company continues the Circulação Amazônica project

Manaus (AM) – Between the 5th and 8th of October, the Corpo de Dança do Amazonas takes the shows “Rios Voadores” and “TA – Sobre ser Grande” to the stage of the Nelson Rodrigues Theater, in Rio de Janeiro. The presentations are unprecedented in the capital of Rio de Janeiro and are part of the “Amazon Circulation CDA 25 years” project. Entry is free.

The CDA is one of the artistic bodies of the State Government, coordinated by the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy. The presentations are part of the Caixa Cultural Space Occupation Program, which provides investments for the occupation of units, encouraging the democratization of culture, through diverse programming, at affordable prices.

Directed by Mário Nascimento, the CDA crowns its national season with an unprecedented performance at the Rio theater. Over 25 years of operation, the company has produced more than 60 works. “CDA is one of the largest companies in Brazil, with works created with the participation of guest artists who, despite highlighting cultural diversity, carry the legitimacy of the Amazon. It is the contemporary dance of Amazonas, giving voice to our art and culture”,

said the holder of the Culture portfolio, Marcos Apolo Muniz.

Also under the Caixa Cultural Occupation Program, in 2024, the company will travel to the cities of Fortaleza (CE), Curitiba (PR) and Brasília (DF).

Shows on display

“Rios Voadores”, with performances on October 5th to 6th, at 7pm, is a show by Rosa Antuña and brings to the scene the importance of preserving the environment as a crucial point for the balance of the planet. The term “flying rivers” represents a phenomenon where a gigantic mass of water vapor coming from the ocean is added to the transpiration of the forest. The balance of rainfall in other regions of Brazil depends on the balance of the Amazon forest and the formation of flying rivers.

The show “TA – Sobre ser Grande”, by Mário Nascimento, with performances on October 7th, at 7pm, and October 8th, at 6pm, brings together dancers to represent a tribe of the Tikuna ethnic group and express the feeling of being from the region North. For the Tikunas, a people originally from Amazonas, TÁ means big.

A short expression full of meanings, since the language for these people is part of them, the sounds of the environment are part of the language they speak, in addition to revealing the full strength of a people who live in this range, the Amazon.
