Amazon will stop donation program for entities – 01/19/2023 – Panel SA

Amazon announced on Wednesday (18) that it will discontinue its charitable donation program, AmazonSmile, created in 2013.
According to the company, even after a decade of launch, the initiative “has not grown to create the impact initially expected”.
AmazonSmile donates 0.5% of the amount paid by the consumer in purchases to one of the program entities chosen by the customer.
“With so many eligible organizations — more than 1 million globally — our ability to make an impact used to be very low,” the company said in a statement.
The retailer says that, to help with the transition, it will transfer to the entities an amount equivalent to three months of what they received in 2022 in the program.
According to Amazon, AmazonSmile will be discontinued by February 20th.
