Aiming for clean energy, BNDES finances wind project – 05/10/2023 – Panel SA

Following a guideline pointed out by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) shortly after winning the elections, when he promised more investments in clean energy, the BNDES announces this Thursday (10th) a partnership with WEG to finance R$ 59 million in development of an aerogenerator that will produce energy more efficiently in wind farms.

According to the development bank, the high-power equipment will be the largest in operation in the national market and will make it possible to reduce investments in the installation of new wind farms and in carbon emissions.

The manufacture of the device is scheduled for the end of next year. Funding resources will come from Finem (Climate Fund) and will be used in the development, manufacture, transport and installation of the generator, in addition to the purchase of components for the production of a prototype for field tests and certification.

According to the BNDES, the equipment will use a technology that will allow the optimization of the weight of the components and greater operational reliability. The system will also be adaptable to different energy networks, allowing export to other countries.

The power will be 7.0 MW (megawatts) and the rotor diameter of the blades will be 172 meters —currently, WEG produces models of 4.2 MW and 147 meters of rotor.

“The BNDES is one of the largest financers of clean energy in the world and played a structuring role in making the wind energy matrix in Brazil viable, not only by supporting wind farm projects but also by financing the production of equipment for these parks. This new operation seeks to innovate through the production of more efficient wind turbines, which meets the Bank’s new strategic guidelines of having a more prosperous, green, digital and inclusive economy”, said José Luis Gordon, director of productive development at BNDES .
