AGU breaks record and recovers R$62.7 billion in active debt and judicial recovery

The Attorney General’s Office (AGU) announced this Monday (1st) that it reached a historic milestone in 2023 by recovering R$62.7 billion for public coffers, the highest amount ever obtained in a single year. This result represents an increase of 6.8% compared to the previous year within the new strategies adopted to collect credits owed to the State.

The Attorney General’s Office of the National Treasury (PGFN), a body linked to the AGU, responsible for recovering tax credits from taxpayers enrolled in active debt from the Union, obtained a total of R$48.3 billion in 2023, an increase of 23.5 % compared to the previous year.

Among these strategies are the financial analysis of the taxpayer’s profile, prioritizing the execution of the largest debtors with payment capacity, and the tax transaction, which aims to negotiate directly with the debtor, seeking a consensual solution and reducing litigation.

The collection carried out by the PGFN covers both individuals and legal entities and addresses a variety of debts, from overdue taxes to social security contributions and amounts owed to the Service Time Guarantee Fund (FGTS). In relation to the latter, according to the AGU, R$680 million were recovered, used to finance the national housing policy.

In addition to the PGFN, other AGU units also contributed to the record collection in 2023. The Attorney General’s Office of the Central Bank (PGBC) recovered R$4.9 billion, mainly through payments of debt installments entered into with financial institutions in judicial recovery, such as the Econômico and Nacional banks.

The Federal Attorney General’s Office (PGF) and the Federal Attorney General’s Office (PGU) recovered, respectively, R$7.5 billion and R$1.9 billion, in credits owed to federal public agencies and foundations and in related causes. administrative probity.

In total recovered resources, AGU recovered R$235 billion in five years, with a gradual increase year by year. In 2019, the amount was R$33.2 billion, while in 2022 it was R$58.7 billion.
