When taking the stage of the Esfera business group event, which took place this Saturday (26), in Guarujá (SP), Abilio Diniz described the scenario he sees in the country today, with a drop in inflation, the prospect of a drop in interest rates and relative animation in the economy, however, he sees no reason to celebrate.

To an audience that included influential names from the business community and Brasília —such as the brothers Joesley and Wesley Batista (J&F), Flávio Rocha (Riachuelo), João Camargo (Esfera), the president of TCU (Tribunal de Contas da União), Bruno Dantas, and senators Efraim Filho (União-PB) and Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM)—, Abilio Diniz said that Brazilian society is lacking ambition.

“Roberto Campos Neto is doing a spectacular job as president of the Central Bank, and the proof of that is the way in which we brought inflation down much faster than in other countries. a certain animation in the economy. We are in a moment of comfort, people are excited. I don’t know if there is much reason to celebrate”, he pointed out.

He said he believes that the country will grow between 2.5% and 3% this year, well below the progress registered in the last year of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s second term.

“The president wants to put the poor in the Budget? How do you put the poor in the Budget without growth? We have to be more ambitious. We have to have a plan that leads us to grow much more than we are growing now”, said Abilio.

He made the statement during a debate in which Campos Neto also participated in response to a question about the discussion of offshore taxation.

“It’s no use going into specific issues, Tax Reform, fiscal framework. The reform will be approved, but is that all we want? What is the plan for this Brazil to really grow and develop? If we look at what is happening in other countries, we have a chance to grow and a lot. There is a lot of money to invest in, we need to attract that money here”, said Abilio, to applause from the audience.
