Bolsonaristas accommodate relatives in offices of allies – 05/13/2023 – Panel

Politicians from different spheres linked to federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) have appointed each other’s relatives to positions in their offices. The exchanges mainly involve the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo and the Chamber of Deputies.

Three family members of Sonaira Fernandes (Republicans), former councilor and secretary of Politics for Women of Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), were recently allocated in different offices.

Her sister, Sônia Maria de Santana, works as an assistant in the office of state deputy Valéria Bolsonaro (PL), a distant relative of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

Her husband, Vitor Hugo de Souza, worked from 2019 to 2021 in the office of state deputy Gil Diniz (PL), Postman Reaça, and then migrated to that of Altair Moraes (Republicans), which he left in March of this year.

Finally, Rubens Fernandes de Santana, Sonaira’s brother, also left Eduardo Bolsonaro’s office in March.

Valéria Bolsonaro, in turn, also employs pharmaceutical Joyce Lopes, wife of Paulo Chuchu (PRTB), Eduardo’s former security guard and councilor in São Bernardo do Campo. She also got a vacancy for the councilor’s sister, Juliana Lopes, in the leadership of the PL in Alesp.

Valéria’s daughter, Ana Luiza Ramos Bolsonaro, in turn, has been working since March as parliamentary secretary for federal deputy Mario Frias (PL-SP), Eduardo’s ally, as shown by the Metrópoles website.

Since February Gutemberg has been in the same office as Igo Diniz, Gil Diniz’s brother.

As appointments involve advisors from different spheres (municipal, state and federal) and do not have direct exchanges, they are not considered illegal, in principle.

In a note from the press office, Sonaira says that the hiring of her sister has nothing to do with the government of São Paulo or with the Secretariat for Policies for Women and that Sônia Maria has “her own professional and political trajectory, compatible with the position she exercises in another Power, different from the one in which the Secretary is a member.”

In the text, she “reaffirms her commitment to probity and fairness in public management.”

Valéria Bolsonaro claims that the appointments to her cabinet have nothing to do with the proximity of the group and that they were “defined by technical criteria”. In this way, she says, Sonaira’s sister and Chuchu’s wife “have training with the proper certification for the positions they hold.”
