Striker Jô, ex-Corinthians, is hired by Amazonas to compete in Series B

Amazonas signed striker Jô for the 2024 season, which includes the unprecedented dispute in Series B of the Brazilian Championship. The information is from journalist Larissa Balieiro. The experienced player, aged 36, joins the squad this Friday (5), in Recife, where he is doing pre-season training at CT do Retrô.

In February 2023, Jô even announced in an interview that he intended to retire, but would continue in football as an athlete manager. He has not played since his time at Ceará in 2022, where he played 11 games and scored two goals.

That year, Vozão ended up being relegated to the national Division. Afterwards, he was signed by Al-Jabalain, from Saudi Arabia, but did not even enter the field. In November last year, he was announced by Existente Futebol e Samba, a team from São Paulo that plays in a floodplain tournament.

Revealed by Corinthians, Jô has spent time at CSKA, from Russia, Manchester City and Everton, both from England, as well as Galatasaray, from Turkey, Internacional, Atlético-MG, Jiangsu Suning, from China, Nagoya Grampus, from Japan, and, for end, Ceará.

The striker played in the 2014 World Cup for the Brazilian team. In his career, the main titles he won were the Libertadores (2013) and Copa do Brasil (2014) with Atlético-MG, the Brazilians (2005 and 2017) and the São Paulo (2003 and 2017) with Corinthians and the Confederations Cup (2013 ) with Brazil.

In addition to debuting in the Brazilian Series B, Amazonas will also compete in the Copa do Brasil for the first time in its history in the 2024 season.

Champion of Series C last year, Onça-Pintada’s debut in the new year is scheduled for January 21st, against Manauara, in the first round of the Amazonense Championship. The agenda still includes participation in the Green Cup.
