Beatriz Haddad Maia is in the final of the WTA Elite Trophy, a tournament that brings together the 12 best athletes of the year outside the top 8, which takes place in Zhuhai, China.
In the early hours of Saturday (28), the Brazilian, number 19 in the world, beat the Russian Daria Kasatkina, 17th in the rankings, by 2 sets to 0, with partials 6/4 and 6/1.
Bia reaches the final without losing a single match. Unlike other tournaments that are eliminatory from the start, the WTA Elite Trophy had a group stage, with two groups of four athletes. The Brazilian won all three games in the first phase to reach the semifinals.
“It was a tough week, with a lot of work, and I managed to maintain my aggressive mentality in all the games, I’m happy for that. Tomorrow I would like to enjoy, to play with my heart”highlighted after the match.
The final will be in the early hours of this Sunday against the Chinese Qinwen Zheng, 18th in the ranking. In case of the title, Bia could jump to 11th position in the ranking.
Doubles final
The Brazilian is also in the doubles final of the tournament alongside Russian Veronika Kudermetova. The pair secured top spot in the Lily group after winning two matches. Now Bia and Veronika await the result of the Bougainvillea group to meet their opponents in the decision.
