Around 83,200 job openings were created in Brazil in January this year, according to data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed People (Novo Caged) released earlier this Thursday afternoon (9), by the Ministry of Labor and Employment. Despite the positive balance between admissions and dismissals, the number is half of that recorded in the same month of 2022, when 167.2 thousand vacancies were created (see in full).

The Novo Caged report also points out that the positive balance in January 2023 was the lowest since 2020, when 92,600 jobs were created. On the other hand, the result covered part of the losses of December last year, when the balance of jobs was negative in 440 thousand vacancies.

The monthly stock of formal jobs ended January this year with a growth of 4.81% compared to the same month in 2022, with 42.5 million jobs. Applications for unemployment insurance increased by 15.9%, reaching 614 thousand.

In January of this year, the services sector generated the most jobs in January, with 40.6 thousand new jobs, followed by construction (38.9 thousand), industry (34 thousand) and agriculture (23.1 thousand). Trade, however, closed 53.5 thousand jobs in the month.
