What was supposed to be a three-year journey aboard a cruise ship that would sail across every continent on the planet became a headache for the adventurers who dropped everything to board Life at Sea Cruises just days before departure.
After weeks of silence and some postponements of the start date of the trip — which would initially be on November 1st, in Istanbul, Turkey, and was moved to this 30th, in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands — those responsible for the cruise said who don’t have a ship and canceled their trip.
The company said it would reimburse passengers who invested US$30,000 to US$110,000 a year to travel to 136 countries by February, that it would guarantee accommodation until the first of December and that it would also pay travel expenses to Turkey. and the Netherlands, where many of the customers were already expecting the upcoming departure.
The problem is that, in preparation for the trip, most people had already sold, left or rented their homes, in addition to getting rid of their belongings, and now they have nowhere else to live.
The journey of 130,000 nautical miles (the equivalent of 240,000 kilometers) would be made by the MV Gemini, which accommodates up to 1,074 passengers in 400 cabins — a size that would avoid large crowds but would be large enough to offer all the amenities that cruise ships larger ones offer, such as swimming pools, spas, gyms, restaurants and bars with free consumption.
To attract digital nomads, the ship would also have a “business center” with the necessary infrastructure for remote work, such as 14 offices, two meeting rooms, a library and a lounge. It would also be possible to receive visits from friends and family when the ship is docked. Everything included in the reservation price, with no additional charges.
