An octagon in the center of Ópera de Arame ready to receive the champions of more than 50 categories on the night of last Monday, August 28th. Thus was the historic party of the 13th edition of the Bom Gourmet Award, the biggest since its creation. The Champion is definitely back.
Presented by Gold Food Service, the award followed the playful concept of the competition. Divided into four rounds, it presented the categories, named the nominees and called all the champions to receive the trophy on top of the octagon. More than a thousand people attended the most important night of gastronomy in the southern region of the country. With shouts of “the champion is back”, the theme of this year’s edition of the award, Wanderlei Silva, the MMA champion from Curitiba, climbed into the octagon, a terrain he knows like few others. “I’m excellent in the kitchen,” he joked. With the belt of one of his many achievements on his shoulders, the fighter sent a quick but accurate message to all representatives of the best local gastronomy present at the Ópera. “The two words that govern anyone who deals with the public are persistence and resilience,” he said. And that, he understands. “If you work properly, you have no competitors, because you have an audience for everyone”, he summed up.
Andrea Sorgenfrei, Head of Pinó, and Ozeias Oliveira, owner of Gold Food Service, started the activities by presenting the partnership that unites the company to the platform Good Gourmet and the meaning of the award for the sector. The businessman reinforced that, given his wanderings around the country and travels around the world, he has rarely seen a segment that evolves as consistently as Curitiba’s gastronomy. Result of the efforts of entrepreneurs in the search for innovation and improvements, and the perception that it is necessary to seek knowledge all the time to understand the desires and needs of the public.
Three rounds and the winners’ parade
In just over an hour, the three rounds were enough to introduce nominees, salute honorees and consecrate champions. With journalist Janaína Xavier and chef and youtuber Guilherme Guzela as masters of ceremonies, the party included a street dance show with Superstar BBoys, a group from Curitiba that has been carrying the banner of breaking and hip hop culture for 25 years in presentations and competitions.
The first round was dedicated to the category winners Erasto Gaertner, Gastronomy and Sustainability, Gastronomy that Transforms (in partnership with Clube da Alice), HAUS Ambientação and the Bom Gourmet Committee, which honored Erminia Caliceti, owner of Caliceti in Bologna, and Emi Hepp , from Mercearia Riograndense. The category also recognized, as best sommelier, José Vinicius Chupil, partner of Duq Gastronomia, and as best restaurateur, Marcia Oliveira, partner of Ile de France.
The second round celebrated the popular vote – in all, there were 274,017 votes in the 28 open categories of the Popular Flavor phase. The final round featured winners in all 15 Specialty categories, including the highly anticipated Best Restaurant and 5 Star Chefs of the Year list.
the strength of the brand
Ana Amélia Filizola, director of GRPCOM’s Newspapers Unit, which includes Gazeta do Povo, highlighted the strength of the Bom Gourmet brand which, more than 30 years ago, when Curitiba’s gastronomic circuit was limited to a few restaurants and Santa Felicidade, understood that if the city’s tendency was to grow, the sector would grow along with it. And it would expand with quality as long as there were strategies for that.
“The sector saw, 30 years ago, that Bom Gourmet came to help it, to help restaurants and also consumers to discover different places”, he recalls. Ana Amélia also pointed out that the understanding, on the part of the chefs, was fundamental for this growth, that it was necessary to be together with the brand to discuss the segment, find solutions, seek novelties and understand how to increasingly serve a consumer public known for its demand.
“I see that it is a very nice partnership for us, and in our mission to help people find their way, for chefs, who increasingly expand their businesses, and for the final consumer, who has the chance to discover new restaurants ”, he evaluates.
strategic partnership
Gold Food Service was the first company to present, in this year’s edition, the Bom Gourmet Award. Ozeias Oliveira classified the partnership between the company and the platform as “absurdly strategic”, and understands that it allows for high-level communication with the owner and the chef, who often plays both roles.
“There is no more powerful platform that reaches the heart of gastronomy as much as Bom Gourmet. We have been in this partnership for many years, which has matured over the years and, in 2024, it will happen again and it will be even better than it was today, which, for me, was the best party that ever happened at the Bom Gourmet Awards”, he points out. .
The entrepreneur reinforces that the partnership aims to make the category ecosystem work with all links solid and perfectly connected. “Our genuine concern, and also that of Bom Gourmet, is to make gastronomy strong and powerful, so that customers are happy when entering the salons and find what they expect and even beyond what they expect, and we want to claim to be an active agent in this transformation and turn Curitiba’s gastronomy into a reference for Brazil”, he says.
For Andrea Sorgenfrei, the return of competition, with the motto ‘the champion is back’, is a playful and healthy way to foster competitiveness in the sector, in a relationship where everyone has a win: restaurants, suppliers and consumers. After two years of the pandemic, without the competitive nature of the award, resuming the spirit of the search for the highest point on the podium makes each sector representative reflect on their work and understand that it is possible to do even better.
′′ After two years of the pandemic, we decided last year to celebrate life. But for this year we thought, ‘let’s go back to competitiveness’, because it’s healthy, it’s important for the development of the sector. But how to do it in a playful way? We brought the fight, the octagon, we deconfigured the Wire Opera, we put the gastronomy actors on an octagon-shaped stage, where people would be exalted for the work developed over an entire year”, he details.
For Head da Pinó, all nominees are already champions for being part of a select group of more than 200 establishments. And considering that more than 12,000 establishments were nominated, being among those nominated for the Award is already proof that all efforts have paid off. “Being champion, then, is a very cool reference, and people look for reference”, he concludes.
