Sean Ono Lennon, son of artist Yoko Ono and musician John Lennon, created a virtual wishing tree to celebrate his mother’s 90th birthday, whose birthday is this Saturday.
Among the celebrities who sent wishes are former Beatle Ringo Starr, singer Elton John, former Oasis member Liam Gallagher and photographer Annie Leibovitz.
“My mother is a tree hugger in real life. When we pass a tree that has any meaning, she inevitably stops and hugs it with incredible enthusiasm,” said Sean Ono Lennon to the British newspaper The Guardian.
“Since nine is a very special number in her universe, I thought we should do something special for her 90th birthday. So I made a virtual wishing tree, like the wishing trees she usually makes in museums and galleries,” he said. , who followed in his father’s footsteps and became a musician.
John Lennon was shot dead on December 8, 1980 by Mark David Chapman, hours after the former Beatle signed a record for him. Chapman is serving a life sentence for the murder and has applied for parole more than ten times. All requests, however, were denied by the American Justice.
Since creating his first wishing tree in 1996, Ono has collected nearly 2 million wishes from over 200 trees in 35 countries. People are invited to write what they want and tie the notes to a branch on the premises.
