XP’s chief economist, Caio Megale, will chair the newly created Lide Economy Committee, headed by João Doria. His term will be two years, without pay, and during that period he will not leave the bank.
Megale told the column that he will invite three or four economists to join him on the committee, which will function as a think tank —a center for studies and debates on the economic situation focused on current issues, such as the future of interest rates in the world and the impact of artificial intelligence on the economy.
As chairman of the committee, he will also join the executive board of Lide, joining a team today formed by Luis Fernando Furlan (president of the board), João Doria Neto (president of Lide), Celso Lafer, Henrique Meirelles and João Doria himself .
Recently, the president of CNI (National Confederation of Industry), Robson de Andrade, was invited to this council. He will leave the organization and join Lide in September, when he will hand over command of the CNI to Ricardo Alban.
Megale made a career in the private sector and, between 2017 and 2018, served as Secretary of Finance in São Paulo. Doria was mayor at the time.
Between 2019 and 2020, he took over the National Secretariat for Industry and Commerce of the Ministry of Economy in the Jair Bolsonaro government.
Later, he moved to XP, one of the main financial houses in the country.
Lide is an organization that brings together executives from the most varied sectors that defend the free initiative of economic and social development.
Brazilian and multinational companies with revenues equal to or greater than R$ 200 million per year and following governance rules can participate in Lide.
