Manaus (AM) – Carioca Daniel Massa came to Manaus for the first time in 2018 and as he walked through the streets of the historic center he felt an instant connection with the city, a true overwhelming passion. Massa then returned to Amazonas more than 9 times and visited the municipalities of São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Maués, Tabatinga, Novo Airão and Iranduba. This fascination with Amazonian culture resulted in a book called “Fio d’água”, which will be released this Thursday (6th), at 6:30 pm, at Banca do Largo.

Published in November 2022 by 7Letras, the work tells the story of Orsina, a missionary from São Gabriel da Cachoeira who finds a boy in the waters of the Rio Negro and flees to Manaus with the child. The chapters, written in verse like poems, accompany the growth of the boy, baptized as Moisés, who crosses typically Amazonian scenarios, such as Bodozal, Feira da Panair, the Tarumã floats, Ponta Negra beach, and other spaces in the capital. amazonense. Banca do Largo itself is present in the last chapter of the book, a tribute to the important space of cultural resistance.

Dialoguing with the tradition of the indigenous peoples of the Upper Rio Negro and with biblical stories, the work also transits between literary genres, creating an innovative and sometimes sinuous way of narrating, like the riverbed that takes shape from a thread of water. ‘water.

Banca do Largo

Banca do Largo, founded by Joaquim Melo, houses the most complete collection of books on the Amazon and is part of the history of the capital. Located next to the historic Teatro Amazonas, Banca has already received releases from great authors such as Eliane Brum, Ailton Krenak and Milton Hatoum, being the subject of articles in newspapers throughout Brazil and the world.

The launch of “Fio d’água” marks the reopening of Banca, closed since January due to the death of its founder, Joaquim Melo.
